Past Projects
The first project taken on by
the Trust was the Warm Homes Insulation retrofitting
programme which began in 2004.
Since then the Trust has grown and diversified
and now coordinates multiple projects across various
sustainability portfolios including energy efficiency, waste, transport and community.

Sustainable Communites Film Festival
The first sustainable communites festival was held as part of World Environment day in June 2008. The festival showcased a number of local and international short films which aimed to raise awareness for sustainable living through community action. Discussion sessions after the screenings enabled audiences to engage with producers and hear the real stories behind these inspiring films.

Energy Savers Porirua
In 2006, the Sustainability Trust received funding from the Minister for the Environment's Sustainable Management Fund to develop a community based climate change mitigation and sustainable energy programme in Porirua City.

Mind Your Waste
The Mind Your Waste project was a year long project based in Porirua. Its primary aim was to encourage residents to voluntarily change their behaviour and reduce the amount of household waste going to landfill. Specific activities within the project included: nappy workshops with parenting groups to find alternatives to disposable nappies; workshops with Housing New Zealand Tenancy Managers to enable them to help their tenants manage and reduce their household waste; a community composting facility at Te Maara at Cornwall Crescent; helping Cannons Creek primary school set up composting and recycling systems; and working with people for whom English is a second language to come up with a resource that helps them manage and reduce their household waste.
