HomeFit - Fit for living

HomeFit is a no-nonsense, straightforward way to check how easily a home can be kept warm, dry and safe.

HomeFit is a home certification process created by the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) with the housing sector to help people understand how healthy their home is and support them to make the necessary changes.

And yes, we are an accredited provider of HomeFit.

About HomeFit

New Zealand homes aren’t good enough. All too often, they’re cold, draughty, expensive to heat and make us, our friends and our whānau sick.

HomeFit was created by the New Zealand Green Building Council with the housing sector to help people understand how healthy their home is and support them to make the necessary changes.

The BRANZ House Condition Survey of 2015 showed that many New Zealand homes are lacking decent insulation, ventilation or heating. Poor quality housing is linked to major health issues in New Zealand such as rheumatic fever and asthma.

HomeFit is an inspection-based assessment of the health, comfort, energy efficiency and safety of New Zealand homes. It covers a range of topics that a panel of experts believes to be essential for a home to be liveable and provides an independent check as to whether the house meets the Healthy Homes Standards.

About the HomeFit Assessment

HomeFit covers a range of topics that a panel of experts believes to be essential for a home to be liveable. As an accredited provider our assessors deliver detailed home assessments that check your home’s compliance against a range of heating, ventilation, insulation, energy efficiency and safety issues.

Following the assessment, you will receive a detailed HomeFit report from NZGBC outlining the findings and recommendations for improvements. If you take up the recommendations and meet each of the HomeFit standards you will be provided with a final compliance certificate that your home is HomeFit certified.

HomeFit is a national independent standard that certifies your home is warm, dry and safe. If your house is HomeFit certified and is a rental property, your home will automatically meet the Healthy Homes Standards for rentals.

A HomeFit assessment takes around 2 hours to complete and costs from $300 - $400 depending on the size of your home. This includes one recheck of the home within six months if you wish to have your HomeFit report re-issued or recertified after any upgrades. Our assessors can also provide you with quotes from Sustainability Trust to provide some of the recommended upgrades – you are encouraged to get a number of other quotes to compare prices
